Odette

Odetje is a cat from the colony that lives in the garden of an elderly Spanish man. I call this sweet old man Grandpa.

Grandpa asked me for help a long time ago when I met him in the village. He supposedly has many cats and kittens on his property and although he loves them very much, he does not have the means to help them with food and medical care. They kept getting kittens but only a few or none survived because the Mamas themselves had nothing and simply could not raise them. Grandpa can just about make ends meet for himself but cannot buy food for the kittens.

I said I would come and watch and if I would help, it would only be on condition that I could also castrate and sterilize them all. That was fine.

I found super skinny kittens and kittens in poor health.

Grandpa sometimes gave them some leftover food and dry bread, but of course these are not suitable foods.

I now feed them every day, together with Faithje, Lowietje and Sofietje, 3 dogs that are also up for virtual adoption (see our list). All cats and dogs have now been sterilized and castrated, medically treated and are starting to become decent cats.

Odetje is a very sweet and affectionate cat who is loved by the whole group. When I first started helping the group, she had a skin condition that made her entire backside bald and she went crazy with itching.

She has now been treated for this and is almost completely healed and the hair is back. She always seems extra grateful because of this because although the food is tempting when I put it down. I always get a good headbutt before she starts eating.
